I am Aprilia and I get fed up with things and want to move on quite a lot, which might be the reason for me always looking at flight tickets and hotels.
Last year in October I decided to move to Ireland, just out of the blue, well it was an old dream I wanted to follow but everything happened so suddenly. I moved to a town called Mullingar in Westmeath in the Midlands of Ireland. Firstly I am quite a picky person and I was on student grants and I didn't have a job, which meant that I would never be able to find anything in Dublin that would suit my needs as well as my low income. Secondly I never really wanted to live in Dublin. I wanted to live in a smaller town and closer to the countryside. And that is exactly what I did.
I started mullingardiaries.com (now also called apriliabrun.com) about my move to Ireland to let interested people know about my experiences and downfalls. But as time went on I had to move back to Denmark again and that is also where Mullingar Diaries ended.
Mullingar was where everything started and who knows maybe someday everything will end in Mullingar as well. I planted a root in Mullingar and for as long as I am alive it will keep growing. If you want to read about my life in Ireland, my experiences, expectations and downfalls everything is still available on this site. Just go back to the older posts.
This year's destinations: England (London, Liverpool), Sweden (Jönköping, Malmö, Göteborg, Stockholm), Norway (Oslo), Germany (Flensburg, Trier, Hannover), Netherlands (Groningen, Haren, Amsterdam), Luxemburg, Belgium (Brugge, Jabbeke, Morlanwelz) and Scotland (Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee), Indonesia (Bali)
Next year's destination is already set: Australia (Sydney), Indonesia (Bali)

Hi Aprilia!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love your blog! You write in an interesting and humorous way and I just want to know more about your stay in Ireland.
I live in Sweden, studying to become a primary school teacher, and 2016 I will be doing my final exam abroad. I have loved Ireland for years, I'm now 22, and thinking about carrying out my thesis work there.
Your blog is very inspirational for me, as I wish to carry out my work in a smaller town to make the comparison with my own (kind of small) town as fair as possible.
Mullingar seems lovely!
I look forward to keep reading your blog.
I didn't knew how to comment in any other way so I had to type in my inactive blog.. Ignore it hahaha.

Hi Mia.
DeleteI'm glad that you like the blog and I hope that it might help you on your decisions. That's why I made it in the first place; to give an insight and maybe help people who want to go to Ireland.
I have enjoyed my time in Mullingar, but I don't feel that I connected properly with the town. I will describe this in my next entry.
I went to Galway for the first time this week, and if I am ever moving back to Ireland, I think Galway might be the place. It's more international and there's a lot of young people. I felt like I connected with it right away. But I think you should definitely visit before moving.
If there is anything I can help you with you can always send me an email to aprilialarsen@gmail.com
Regards
