Everything is still good and I’m still being treated nicely.
Yesterday J knocked on my door and asked me if I wanted a ride into town. And I gladly accepted the offer! She drove me to Kenny Bi-cycles and told me she would go with me inside but sadly he was closed, so I didn’t get a bike yesterday. I walked around town and tried to get to know my way around and it seems like I’m getting the hang of it. I also went to Tesco (which was a lot bigger than the Spar I went to the day I arrived). Having to walk 2,5 km with groceries is actually quite long. I was so tired when I got back that I had to take a nap and in the evening I was supposed to go into town to watch Champions League but the tiredness still hadn’t left my body and I decided to stay home. So I still haven’t been to a pub yet.
I also had a little walk down the canal, which is such a lovely and quiet place, and everyone you meet while walking by the canal says hi to you.

To be honest I just love the canal. And the fact that if I get lost I just have to find the canal and follow it and it will lead me to a place where I know my way back.
As for the rain I think it’s taking a break because the sun has been shining the last couple of days. The ground is moister here though, because even though the sun is shining it seems like the ground stays semi-wet.
It seems like I still have a lot of thoughts on my mind. This time I’m wondering if you can drink the tap water? I think the water has a stronger smell of something and I’ve seen that you can buy those 4 litres (I think) bottles at the supermarkets. Who would want to buy so much water if you can drink tap water?
Also I’ve been told (and read) that Ireland is a few years behind compared to other countries and I think that is true. I’ve been to a few places where you can’t use your credit card. For me that is quite weird since I am used to being able to use it everywhere I go in Denmark. Even the hotdog-stand in the central of Frederikshavn takes cards now-a-days (which I have been grateful for, thank you!).
I was lucky enough to get a ride from J into town today too. When I got in I went straight to Kenny Bi-Cycles and to my luck he was open. It is a really small shop, nothing like the bike shops in Denmark, but that doesn’t mean it is less joyful – in fact I had the best time in there. I was met by a man and told him what I needed. We talked and I told him where I was from and what I was doing in Mullingar. We shook hands (it seems like something you just do over here, because he’s not the first to do so. It makes you feel welcome). He told me my bike would be ready in 10-15 minutes so I went to find an ATM and when I was walking down the main street in order to find an ATM loads of soldiers (young soldiers, I may add) were standing outside of Ulster Bank with their riffles exposed. (Let’s just say that I did NOT use Ulster Bank’s ATM) I couldn’t help but wonder what went down in there. Maybe it was just military training, I don’t know. On my way back I dropped in for a cup of coffee at Gallery 29 Café, which was a nice place.
When I got back to Kenny’s he wasn’t quite finished with my bike so instead of just standing in the shop he took me to the workshop, which was really small. He found a chair for me and we talked while he fixed my bike. He was really sweet and asked me about Denmark and he told me a bit about Ireland and Mullingar. He is another kind person to add to my list of kind people in Ireland.
On my way back to The Cottage (yes, that is what the place I live at is called) I stopped by Tesco and shopped BIG time! I may add that I did not ride my bike from Kenny's to Tesco because I was a chicken. Anyway now I think I’m pretty close to having everything I need. I’ve got tea, hot chocolate, coffee, squash, milk, spaghetti and ketchup. Nah I’m just kidding I also have Custard Creams. (and a lot more). So with food in da house I might not have to go into town tomorrow so I’m gonna see if I can finish this week’s lectures tomorrow so I can enjoy the weekend, cause I definitely need to check out the pubs soon. I also have this idea that I am going to meet someone at the pub and maybe get a friend someday. Will there be a better way than to meet someone over a pint of the black stuff?
Okay to sum up what I have found out about Ireland.
- There are a lot of redheads in Ireland.
- I’ve only seen cellar spiders or harvestmen (I don’t know) and I’m thankful for that.
- The Irish are really nice people.
- It seems moister over here.
- They go left in roundabouts.
- They seem a few years behind.
- They seem a few years behind.
- And I still don’t know if you can drink tap water (I’ve done it though).
Next entry I will post pictures of my crip!
